Abstract:
The paper aims to analyse depictions of the EU in the discourse of the Turkish AKP government using the discourse mythological approach, developed by Kelsey (2013, 2014, 2015). This approach combines critical discourse analysis (the discourse historical approach in this case) with political mythology. In this context, the AKP has, in recent years, increasingly depicted the EU in negative terms, attempting to reverse the EU’s founding myth as an area of peace and prosperity where fundamental freedoms, democracy and human rights are respected
